The unofficial standard I’ve heard throughout my half-marathon training is after a race, take the number of days rest equal to the mileage you just ran. Effectively, I should take 9 days off before running again. Well, I made it 7 of those 9, but figured on a short 2 mile run just to get back in the swing of things, and not lose momentum going into the half marathon in less than two weeks. As it’s now nearly freezing at night, opted for a treadmill run this time around, which also helped my sore hips.
I actually ran a bit harder than I intended, and followed it up with a short weight lifting session, but all in all, felt pretty good afterward. Of course, today I’m sore in more places than just my legs, but it’s the “good kind of pain”. I plan to hit the treadmill again Wednesday or Thursday, and then again over the weekend, before tapering off for the Wine & Dine.
Last thing I need to do is get my eating back on track. Ironic story: got a fortune cookie at lunch time, and it read “Never give up until you reach the finish line” How appropriate for next week’s half… something I’ll continually remind myself of as I’m pushing to complete 13.1 miles!
