Size Matters

Interesting day (and I probably have your attention from the title alone)… on my big run this past weekend, I came back with aching feet, specifically my right foot. Thought the time was right to look into new running shoes. The current pair of Asics GT 2000’s are definitely creeping over the 300 mile mark (can’t believe I’m actually saying I ran that many miles). I know somewhere around 500+ is the time to really look into a new pair, but if the 6+ miler treks are going to leave me with aching feet, then the time is right. Thankfully, after a rather quick trip to the running store, I ended up coming home with another pair of the same shoe, albeit these are a size wider. Apparently, not only are my feet quite long (Size 12-13’ish) but they are also wider than normal, so in many cases when my foot swells (from things like running) and there’s no more width to move into, my foot swells lengthwise, making an uncomfortable crunch of my toes into the front of the shoe. This problem should now be alleviated with the wider option. Can’t wait to break them in, and get them ready for the slate of increasingly longer runs leading up to runDisney’s Wine & Dine in November. On a completely separate note, what a beautiful evening and night in southeastern Pennsylvania… slight breeze, cool, probably in the high 60’s… had a nice 2.5 mile jog, worked up a sweat with a 10 minute first mile, but otherwise a good maintenance run.
