Quick update on the earlier trip… managed to come home to a sick dog (not sure what caused that) and my daughter still recovered from a small bout of a stomach bug (lovely… praying no one else gets it). Best news of all was the rental car company actually found my camera and is shipping it back. Can’t wait to see if it’s actually my camera, in one piece, and doesn’t have any additional pictures on it that I didn’t take… oh well, best news of the whole trip.
The real point of this post is that I made it out for a long run this morning, which is unusual as to this day, since I started running in January (8 months ago), I’ve only been out for a morning run one other time. I’m not a morning person by any means, and the last thing I want to do when I wake up is exercise. However, a former high school classmate and her sister invited me to join them for a run. They kept roughly the same pace that I do, so I figured why not. We had scheduled a run a week earlier, but some painful shin splints had me thinking otherwise. Anyways, we decided to run the Norbath Trail near my house, met up at the trail’s parking lot bright and early 8am, and managed to do a 6.00 mile run. I typically like to run alone, because I can clear my head, enjoy the sounds of nature (and quasi-rural living), and just do my own thing. But running with other people just for fun ending up being just that… a lot of fun. We got to share a bunch of stories about how our lives have changed, our kids, and a bunch of other random topics. It definitely made the time pass quicker, and each time we got to a decision point about going back or extending the run, we chose to extend the run.
I can’t say I’ll always want to do the group runs, but it was a nice diversion from the normal, sometimes mundane runs that make up my training for Wine & Dine in November.
