When Running Becomes Routine

Last night, till the kids settled down and got to bed, I wasn’t in much of a mood to go running… it’s been a challenge between prepping a house for sale, coordinating all the little details of getting a new house built, a full-time job, activities, and then ensuring the kids get time and attention… the last thing on my list was going out for a run. I probably spent about as much time pondering the go/no-go decision, when my wife finally told me to just go. So I laced up the shoes, grabbed some water, and off I went… into what was primarily an after-dark run. Surprisingly, my nice 3.1 (5K) run turned out to be an even 11 min./mi. pace, my unofficially training target. Better yet, I came back feeling pretty good mentally and physically. I’m definitely not a morning person, and many of my runs have started and dusk and continued into darkness, but this one was pretty much all dark. I think I’m starting to pass the point of training for the half-marathon being a chore to something that while I know will cause soreness/aches/etc. the next few days, it’s actually something I look forward to for the endorphin release, and wonderfully relaxing high I have afterwards… your mileage may vary (pun intended)!
