Broke a 30 Minute Barrier – Sort of

Opening the front door, I was greeted with a blast of cold air and raindrops… this whole weekend has been nothing by rain, wind, and cold air. Back to the treadmill I go! However, over the last week, I’ve tried to focus on some speed work to hopefully one day break that seemingly elusive 30-minute 5K barrier. I’m a night time runner more than a morning runner, and do most of my training after dinnertime once the kids are in bed. I absolutely love the summertime when the evenings are cool but not too cold, good comfortable running weather.

Tonight’s treadmill session ended at the 3.1 mile mark, but with an achievement that in over a year of running, I had yet to reach – continuous running! I started with a nice 5mph pace, and gradually worked up to a 6.2mph pace to close it all out in 32:28 overall. While I can come close to that doing run/walk intervals, it’s nice to know I have the endurance to push it for 32 minutes straight. The next step is working on some exercises to increase my speed.
