Yesterday, I completed the Lehigh Valley Zoo 10K… my first 6.2 mile timed race. I’ve already covered that distance during my training three different times, so I knew physically I could do it. The temperature was perfect, and I think the overall adrenaline kicked in, and after a pretty continuous first two miles, I slowed a bit during some rather large climbs, and then settled back down and actually ran most of the last 2 miles as well. My trusty running app showed negative splits… first time I did that in a while. All in all, it was a fun experience, and another notch on my way to 13.1 miles in November.
Unfortunately, this morning, my body reminded me while running a 10K isn’t an everyday thing. I can’t really pinpoint a specific body part, just kinda feel like I got run over by a truck. Given that the half I’m running in November starts at 10pm, and I have a plane flight back home the next day, it will be interesting to say the least. Advil and some ice will be my friends. Now for a few days rest and then back into the regular training routine.
