It’s not even two weeks out since Disney, and I was hoping to get back into a solid training routine… which seemed to be going well until yesterday. Counting today’s stroll outside to try and shovel open the driveway, and the three hours spent yesterday shoveling, I hurt! Why you may ask? Yesterday, on January 23, 2016, the Lehigh Valley had the largest single-day snow total in recorded history (since 1922)!!! 30″ READ THAT AGAIN! THIRTY &*%ing inches of SNOW!
The weather forecast predicted up to a foot for us, which in and of itself is a lot, but the storm shifted over Friday night and we got the direct hit! Saturday morning, we had about 6″ on the ground, and actually lost power for about 3 hours (thankful for the gas fireplace and battery backups). Throughout the day, the snow fell upwards of 2-3″ per hour. I shoveled nearly a foot off the driveway around noontime, and within a half hour everything was covered by another 2-3″. Went back out in the evening to shovel another foot, and then finish off the last half foot this morning! What an absolute mess, and nowhere to go with all this snow!
I can’t begin to imagine what this week will be like… it’s pretty much a given that there’s no school tomorrow (most districts already called off). This snowstorm reminded everyone of the 1996 blizzard, which closed schools for a week. Wonder how this one will turn out… quite literally there’s a single lane on many two lane roads. The wife and I headed out tonight just to see what was going on – ended up having a quiet dinner at Chess & Checkers while watching the Broncos beat the Patriots (grilled cheese with crabmeat is to die for). Then helped a mom and her kids get their minivan unstuck from a road that thanks to the plows had become a dead end. Of course I would have to be wearing regular sneakers for this too… go figure.
Anyway, I couldn’t resist posting about this historic event. It was one for the record books, and one I’m sure we won’t soon forget.
